“Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him”  Hebrews 9: 28  The season of Advent marks the beginning of the Church's liturgical year. The four Sundays of Advent are observed in most church traditions and are seen as a preparation for Christmas. All Christmas-related activities begin in churches during this time. For Christians, this signals the shopping, giving, decorating and cooking that comes with the season. But is Advent just a preparation for Christmas? If the Church wanted to focus on the preparation for the celebration of the first coming of our Lord, it could have called it the Christmas season. But we have a separate Christmas season, from Christmas Day to Epiphany. If this is so, how should we think of Advent? God of Surprises

  “ We preach Christ crucified; a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles ” 1 Corinthians 1: 23 God is full of surprises. He sprung a great surprise in Jesus Christ that both Jews and Gentiles (Greeks) were equally taken aback. Jesus was a complete contrast to the expectation of both the groups regarding the salvation of men. Jews longed for a Messiah – a Messiah with power to overthrow the Romans. The Greeks expected an emergence of a revolutionary philosophy from the saviour which could supplant all the great philosophies of ancient time. They believed that this knowledge could save men. But both groups were disappointed with Jesus and what He did to save the mankind. What Jews got was a Messiah who suffered and died at the hands of the Romans. Jesus gave up his life for us

Jesus cried aloud!                "With a loud cry, Jesus breathed his last... and the centurion, who stood there in front of Jesus, saw how he died, he said, "Surely this man was the Son of God." Mark 15: 37 & 39 On Good Friday, we remember how Jesus sacrificed his life for us. But often we forget the fact that it is Jesus who voluntarily gave up his life. Because in our narration, we say often - "Judas betrayed Jesus," "the religious leaders condemned Jesus falsely," "the Roman's crucified him," "they killed him!" etc. Though they describe the reality of what happened on that day, they are not accurate portrayal of the biblical truth. It is true that different people were involved in the suffering and death of Jesus Christ.
